On 19th to 20th April 2016, GIZ China organized the fifth "Sino-German Environment Forum” in Nanjing, which welcomed the German Federal Ministerof the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), Dr. Barbara Hendricks.  

During the two day conference, German and Chinese government representatives and companies from the environmental sector engaged in fruitful exchanges about the status quo and future environmental challenges in China.

On the morning of 19th April, Chinese representatives of the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province, Vice Governor Xu Jianrong, and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), Huang Runqiu, warmly welcomes the German delegation and designated guests. Thereafter Dr. Hendricks and Dr. Axel Schweitzer, Spokesperson of the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA) and CEO of ALBA Group plc & Co. KG, gave their opening speeches recognizing the efforts China has already made in the environmental sector and congratulating the Chinese government representatives for their achievements.

The opening was followed by Keynote speeches in the field of “Innovation and Technology”, “Implementation Challenges and Inclusive Growth” and “Green Investments for Sustainable Development”.
In the afternoon three parallel workshops were offered with targeted speeches in “Resource Efficiency, SCP & Green Procurement”, “Air Pollution Control & Water Management” and “Biodiversity and Soil Conservation”.

On the morning of the second day the speeches held were surrounding the implementation of environmental protection on a regional level and the panel discussion before the lunch break focused on the challenges for implementation. After the official end of the conference, econet china in cooperation with the Foreign Economic Cooperation Office (FECO) of the MEP jointly organized a matchmaking for business talk between German and Chinese companies with mutual business interests.

The German and Chinese companies gave very positive feedback and further projects between the match-making partners will be initiated and followed up on in the coming months.
