Wuhan Green City Forum, a platform for the German industry


The Green City Forum took place on 19th – 20th April in Wuhan as the kick off event of the 2011 follow up activities of the campaign 'Germany & China, Moving Ahead Together' (DuC).

A two-day forum in Wuhan gathered decision makers of Wuhan and the German government.

In the presence of State Secretary Jan Muecke, Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development, Wuhan City Mayor Tang Liangzhi; Ambassador Dr. Michael Schaefer, Jan Noether, AHK Shanghai Chief Representative, the 2011 follow-up activities kicked off with the topic of Green City.

The aim is to define further cooperation areas where Germany and China could make us of their complementary assets. Experts from both countries contributed to the discussion on the development of low carbon cities, as well as ideas for criterias, monitoring, and certification. Most importantly, the need for the right policies and incentives were discussed. 

A project tour of Hanyang Steel factory and Vanke projects was organized for German companies and experts in the afternoon, to get an overview of current developments from leading developers and planners.

The econet salon, in the presence of State Secretary Jan Muecke, was attended by 50 high level representatives from local authorities and developers on the evening of the 19th. Mr. Markus Appenzeller from KCAP architecture & Planning office, presented the Hamburg Harbour City project as one of the key best practice examples in Germany, which offered a showcase for a sustainable redevelopment and some inspiration for Wuhan.



A technical forum took place on April 20th, organized by econet china,  where over 100 representatives from the Wuhan construction commitee, the Wuhan urban planning bureau, local design institutes and developers participated. The forum was mainly designed as panel discussion with 4 sessions on Creating Low Carbon Buildings, Optimizing the Building Envelope, Building Technologies and Renewable Energies and Planning for a Sustainable City.
