econet salon unveils the latest progress of Shanghai Tower


The 128-storied, 632m tall Shanghai Tower is now well under construction and sited in the heart of Shanghai’s Luijiazui Finance and Trade Zone, adjacent to the Jin Mao Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center, which will complete a trio of buildings that form China’s first super-tall district.

A project workshop was organized by econet china on June 20th at Shanghai Tower exhibition center. The event brought together the project team of Shanghai Tower as well as econet partners.

“We aim to build up a vertical city and community in Shanghai”, introduced by Mr.Gu Jianping, General Manager of Shanghai Tower Construction & Development Co.,Ltd. Since the initial planning in 2006, the project has positioned itself not only as the tallest building in Shanghai upon completion, but also the tallest green building in the world. It incorporates quality, functionality and culture into the external and internal design.

Mr. Ge Qing, chief engineer of the project introduced its sustainable strategies of implementation of green technologies and low carbon construction. New problems are constantly emerging in the past 73 months, with the joint efforts of the project team as well as international advisory partners, they have overcome various difficulties in investment & technologies. Now the project has been authorized with China green 3 stars certification of the design phase, meanwhile it is pre-certified for the LEED Gold Prize.


Germany, as the leading country in energy efficient buildings worldwide, has rich experiences on cutting edge technologies and practices. Econet partners including Bosch Thermotechnology, Knauf, Ytong, MPS, Schueco, Merck, SGL, SIP, Sto, Warema, BayerMaterial Science, Wacker as well as TUEV SUED participated in the workshop and introduced their advanced solutions and best practices. The companies also have in-depth discussions on the technical implementation with Shanghai tower project team and inspired each other.

As the newest icon on the Shanghai skyline, Shanghai Tower is planned to be completed by the end of 2014, it will certainly become the new green landmark of the city.
