Green Solutions for sustainability in China - AHK Business Delegation to China under the export initiative program 2013

2013-07-03

With rising energy prices and increasing power shortages, China aims to diversify its energy mix with renewable energy as well as to increase energy efficiency in order to reduce the energy consumption and improve the sustainability and stability of the energy supply. Germany, as a world leading solutions provider for sustainability, is a key partner to match the requirements of the local industry.

Within the frame of "Energy Efficiency - made in Germany" and with the support of the Federal Ministry of Economy & Technology, econet china | German Industry & Commerce Shanghai and eclareon jointly organized a business delegation under the energy efficiency export initiative program to China from June 26-28th.  Eight companies in the field of energy efficiency participated in the delegation’s business trip to Shanghai and Suzhou.

As a kick off event for the delegation program, a Sino-German Forum for Energy Efficiency in Buildings - Using the Example of Ecoparks was held at Hotel Intercontinental Pudong on June 26th.  As the organizer of the forum, econet china brought together over 160 attendees from local authorities, design institutes, low carbon development zones and industry experts to learn about the knowledge German companies in the field of energy efficiency can provide, and themselves share an overview of the current developments in China, especially the increasing green upgrading of eco-parks.

The questions and issues were approached in four panels, discussing Germany’s and China’s policy frameworks, best practices and certification systems from both countries, as well as sophisticated green solutions and services from Germany for energy efficient buildings and communities. Speakers from the delegation covered a wide range of expertise from architectural design, landscape planning, project management, engineering to sensor technology in lighting, insulating materials and systems.

A full day individual match-making program was arranged for the delegation by econet on June 27th. Each company enjoyed meetings with local design institutes, developers, governmental authorities, as well products agencies according to their needs. Through those intensive talks with Chinese partners, the delegation members gained a better understanding of the Chinese market, as well as the application conditions and perspectives for their products and services.

SIP guests

A field trip to Suzhou was accompanied by the econet team on June 28th. The delegation was warmly welcomed by high level representatives from the administration bureau in the Suzhou Industry Park (SIP). SIP is committed to improving overall energy efficiency within its boundaries, and to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the introduction of environmental technologies. To prove this point, the delegation, accompanied by Mr. Jan Noether, Chief Representative, Delegation of German Industry & Commerce Shanghai had been cordially invited to witness the signing of a Letter of Intent for a new Climate Efficiency Network at SIP in the morning.

In the frame of the LoI, which was countersigned by energy efficiency specialist Arqum, SIP and econet, the industry park commits itself to establishing a learning network within its companies, which through energy audits and regular network meetings will learn about methods and technologies to improve their carbon footprint, all while reducing costs. A networking event was held at Suzhou Energy & Environment Exchange in the afternoon. Each delegation member introduced their solutions and network to some of the local companies within the industry park who already have concrete projects to improve their energy efficiency, and were happy to learn about available technologies from Germany.

The 3-day program provided the delegation companies with a great opportunity to introduce their solutions to the Chinese market, as well as meet with the key industry players. We believe that the best practices and experiences can inspire China and strengthen further collaboration between China and Germany.
