Sino-German Ecopark is a project initiated and supported by the Chinese and German governments. In July 2010, during the German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to China, the Ministry of Commerce of China and the Ministry of Economics and Technology of Germany signed the “Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of a Sino-German ecopark". Later the Park officially landed in Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone when China and Germany held a groundbreaking ceremony at the Development Zone on December 6, 2011. In the next 10 years, the Park is planned to develop into a base for high-end eco-industries and eco-living environment.

At the signing ceremony, the two parties agreed to play to their strengths, sharing and utilizing the resource from each side. Under the cooperation, the Park will gain access to the extensive resource econet has accumulated over years in the field of green building and sustainable urban development through co-organizing project-oriented technical workshops and intergrating German experts for architectural design, energy consultancy, green building materials & equipments, green building certification, etc.
