The Alliance was initiated by Landsea and other 6 market players in building sector under CABEE with the mission to promote the development of passive houses, a concept originated from Germany. “Energy consumption of buildings in China takes up to at least 30% of the total energy use in China. The successful pilot projects which had been built according to German passive house standard in north and south China, from Qinhuangdao, Harbin and Changxing for instance, have proved that passive house is a very promising solution to our increasing energy challenges in China, although some adjustment to China's local conditions are needed,” asserted Mr. Yang Xiwei, Chief Engineer of the Science and Technology Promotion Center of MOHURD.

A passive house is an ultra-low energy building that requires almost no energy for space heating or cooling, achieved by its high-performance insulation and ventilation systems. Originated from Germany, the concept has spread across the world with most applications currently found in Europe.

Apart from the promotion of the concept and application of passive houses in China, another ambitious target of the alliance is to draft the first Chinese standard for passive houses in response to the complex market needs and various climate conditions. The compiling of the standard will go hand in hand with more passive house construction projects.
