econet china participated 3rd BAU Congress in Beijing: BAU Congress China 2016 sets a new standard!

The third edition of BAU Congress China (BCC), which took place in Beijing between July 4th and 6th, 2016, can report an outstanding success.

VIP Opening Ceremony

The running time was extended from two to three days and, because of the rising number of exhibitors, BAU Congress China moved for the first time into the halls of the China National Convention Center. That necessary move into the halls is also reflected in the figures: 71 exhibitors from China and Europe took part on 4,000 square meters of space (gross). As such exhibition space has more than tripled within a year. Among the exhibitors were the econet partners Rheinzink and Fraunhofer institute and other well known brands of the industry.

4,511 trade visitors ensured a new visitor record (2015: 3023). The congress program, featuring highly respected speakers from China and around the world, attracted packed audiences on all three days—the themes addressed were: “Urban strategies”, “Project development and implementation” and “Smart building technology”.

Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer, Deputy CEO of Messe München, is very pleased with this positive development: “The strong interest on the exhibitor side, a new visitor record and many renowned speakers show that the quality platform BAU Congress China is now firmly established.”

Opening Speech of Gunther Adler, State Secretary, BMUB

Gunther Adler, State Secretary from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety in Berlin, commented: “BAU Congress China brings advantages to all its participants,
because it is a place for discussions on themes that need to be addressed now and themes that are of importance for the future. Cooperations are agreed here,
experience is exchanged and it is a meeting place for those who have responsibility in the field of construction.”

Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety, and Yang Rong, Director-General, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Department of Science & Technology and Energy Saving) and futurologists to Beijing. Among the international speakers were Ludwig Rongen, Ir. Ruurd Gietema, Ilka May, Peter Kindel, Elsa Thomsen, Stephan Schütz and Christoph Reinhart; on the Chinese side were Zhang Bing, Zhang Li, Jianying Yang and Zhang Xu. Boris Schade-Bünsow, Editor-in-Chief of Bauwelt and organizer of the congress, explains: “BAU Congress China serves as a valuable forum for discussion and exchange of information between international and Chinese architects. International solutions for the Chinese market are presented here, and also Chinese solutions for European problems. The congress shows that both sides are at eye level with each other and can learn from each other.”

The congress program was again extremely popular. On all three days the talks by the speakers were very well attended and it was standing room only, once all 500 seats were all taken. The speakers, among them also econet partner Roland Winkler from MUDI, were delighted with the high level of interest.

Ludwig Rongen, founder and Director of Rongen Architects, sees BCC as an important basis for the further development of the Chinese construction industry:“An event like BAU Congress China is, in my view, very important because it shows how European solutions can be integrated into the Chinese market. On the other hand, also presented are Chinese solutions that could help with European problems. The number and the quality of the visitors in the individual sessions show that the time is ripe for further advancing the building industry in China.”

All in all the exhibitors were very pleased with the high number of trade visitors and the tremendous interest they showed: Jan Peter Hinrichs, Managing Director, Fraunhofer Building Innovation Alliance commented: “BCC is the leading platform for building innovation and quality in China. We are very satisfied with the 2016 edition. The absolute highlight, apart from the top quality of the visitors, was the visit by State Secretary Gunther Adler and the chance to inform him about the Fraunhofer
projects in China. We have already decided we will definitely be taking part again
in 2017.”
